When it comes to your capital account and your team, it’s a classic chicken-and-egg scenario. As a leader, you need to focus on both: capital to fund your vision and your people, who make that vision a reality. While your capital account shows where you’ve been, your team is the best gauge of where you’re going. Capital can be deceptive—it’s a lagging indicator of past efforts. Your team, however, is the real pulse of your future success.

What about your customers? Of course, they matter—but if your people are happy, your customers will be too. Both your bank account and Net Promoter Score are backward-looking. Your team’s morale is the most reliable predictor of future success.
